  3. To Select a particular scene, click on the grey button corresponding 
  4. to the scene you wish to enjoy.
  5.  
  6. To view PICKING UP THE GIRLS in its entirety, click on the "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" 
  7. logo at the top of the screen.  This will present the video in linear
  8. fashion.  Running time is approximately 75 minutes.

  10. To Exit a video while it is running, press the Escape key.
  11.  
  12. To determine whether you are in Lo-Res (Full Screen, 320x200x256) 
  13. or Hi-Res (1/3 Screen, 640x480x256) mode, look at the bottom left 
  14. of your screen for the "STATUS: High(Low)-Res" box. 
  15.  
  16. To change the viewing mode to Low or High Resolution click your 
  17. mouse pointer on the "Switch to (Hi/Lo)-Res" button at the bottom 
  18. right of your screen.  
  19.  
  20. To get this help screen, just repeat what you did to get here now.
  21. To exit this help screen, press the Escape Key.

  23. NOTE: IF YOUR VIDEO IS NOT PLAYING PROPERLY, TRY REINSTALLING USING

  35. Here is a synopsis of technical information related to 
  36. "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" extracted from the ReadMe.txt file:

  39.                           PICKING UP THE GIRLS
  40.  
  41. To install "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" viewing software, log to your CD-ROM
  42. drive and type: "INSTALL" and press Enter.  For a successful install
  43. you will need about .5 Megabytes of available space on your "C:" Drive.
  44.  
  45. Upon initiating the "INSTALL" program as indicated above, an
  46. Installation menu will will appear:
  47.  
  48.         To continue the install process choose option 1. by typing:
  49.         "1" and pressing Enter.
  50.  
  51.         To read the README file before proceeding with the install
  52.         process, select "2" from the menu and press Enter.
  53.  
  54.         To exit back to DOS select "3" from the menu and press Enter.
  55.  
  56. If your system is configured correctly, and you have gone through the
  57. installation process, you can begin enjoying "PICKING UP THE GIRLS". Simply
  58. log to your "C:" drive,
  59.  
  60.  type: "CD\PICKUP" and press Enter then
  61.  type: "GO" and press Enter.
  62.  
  63. If "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" does not load properly then you will need to
  64. review the following information regarding your system configuration.
  65.  
  66. System Requirements:
  67.  
  68. To run "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" you need to have:
  69.  
  70. 1. Your Microsoft Mouse driver loaded,
  71. 2. Your system configured for 2 megabytes of expanded memory,
  72. 3. At least 580 K-Bytes of Conventional memory available.
  73.  
  74. Instructions for adjusting your system to meet these requirements
  75. follow:
  76.  
  77. Setting up Expanded Memory:
  78.  
  79. To set up your system environment with expanded memory, you must edit
  80. the "CONFIG.SYS" file in your root directory ("C:\") to include the
  81. following lines:
  82.         
  83.         DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
  84.         DOS=HIGH
  85.         DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 2048 RAM FRAME=E000
  86.  
  87.  
  88. Maximizing Conventional Memory
  89.  
  90. If "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" still does not load, check your available
  91. conventional (low) memory.
  92.  
  93. You can do this by typing: MEM and pressing Enter.  Check to make 
  94. sure that you have at least 580 Kbytes of free memory in the low 
  95. memory area.
  96.  
  97. If you do not have enough free memory available, you may be able 
  98. to adjust your system configuration by changing all "Device=..." 
  99. statements in your config.sys file to "DeviceHigh=...".  In your 
  100. AUTOEXEC.BAT file you can precede commands with the "LoadHigh " 
  101. statement.  Both of these actions will load drivers and programs 
  102. into high (Extended) memory thereby freeing up conventional memory.
  103.  
  104. An alternative is to create a "Boot Disk".  This is done by
  105. formatting a system disk. To do this place a blank disk in the
  106. "A:" drive and type: FORMAT A:/S
  107.  
  108. Then you can make a "skeleton" config.sys file by setting up
  109. expanded memory (EMM386.EXE, see above), and loading high the drivers
  110. for your CD-ROM, Sound Card, etc.  Leave any unecessary commands out
  111. of your config.sys and autoexec.bat.
  112.  
  113. Reboot your system with the newly created system in drive "A:"
  114. Now you can log to the "C:" drive and execute "PICKING UP THE GIRLS".
  115.  
  116.  
  117. MOUSE
  118.  
  119. If your "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" Video Sequences appear to be loading properly and
  120. suddenly revert back to DOS or your mouse pointer doesn't work, you need to
  121. install your MicroSoft Mouse driver.
  122.  
  123. The mouse driver installation for Windows does not necessarily apply to
  124. the DOS environment.  To install your mouse driver, look for a file on
  125. your system called mouse.com or mouse.exe.  Change to the directory
  126. which contains that file and execute it by typing "MOUSE" and pressing
  127. the enter key.
  128.  
  129. To verify that your mouse driver loaded properly, look for the message:
  130. "Mouse Driver Loaded".
  131.  
  132.  
  133. VIDEO CARDS
  134.  
  135. Some conventional VGA/SVGA video cards require a Vesa driver to run 
  136. correctly. Included on your CD-ROM is a directory called "DRIVERS" 
  137. which contains several drivers for various popular video boards.  
  138. To use these drivers you must do the following:
  139.  
  140.  1. Determine the chipset of your video card.  You may refer to
  141.     your video card manual or you may have to physically inspect
  142.     the card for this information.  You will need this information
  143.     to choose the appropriate driver.
  144.         
  145.  2. UNZIP (Decompress) the appropriate driver by
  146.         
  147.     A. Changing into the DRIVERS directory on your CD-ROM drive.
  148.        This is done by logging to your CD-ROM drive and typing:                               
  149.                    
  150.        "CD\DRIVERS"
  151.                 
  152.     B. As an example assume that you have determined that your
  153.        video card has a TSENG LABS Chipset.  You would then Type: 
  154.                    
  155.       "UNZIP TSENGVSA.ZIP C:\PICKUP" and press Enter.
  156.         
  157.  3.  Apply the driver by following the instructions included with 
  158.      it, or by simply typing in the file name preceding the COM 
  159.      or EXE extention.
  160.  
  161.  4.  After you have loaded the driver, run "PICKING UP THE GIRLS" as indicated
  162.      above.
  163.  
  164. An indication that your system may need a vesa driver is when you have
  165. bright CGA colors splashing your screen, or when hi-res mode is playing
  166. in lo-res.
  167.  
  168. Local Bus Video Cards
  169.  
  170. Local Bus video cards are quickly becoming common as they 
  171. significantly boost performance for Windows users.  However these 
  172. cards sometimes cause memory conflict errors when used with DOS 
  173. Programs.
  174.  
  175. The install program places a special driver on your system to
  176. accomodate most Local Bus Video Cards. This driver is
  177. designed to help overcome the memory conflict problem.
  178.  
  179. Performance on a local bus card may be slower as the special driver 
  180. is actively manipulating memory while playing your video sequences.
  181. If your video performance is extremely choppy, or if you have a Cirrus
  182. Logic VESA card, please indicate this on your registration card so
  183. that we may send you any updated drivers that might improve performance.

  186. SOUND
  187.  
  188. If you have a sound card which is compatible with Sound Blaster or
  189. Pro-Audio Spectrum, and if your sound card is correctly installed,
  190. you should have no problems with sound.
  191.  
  192. The installation program automatically configures for your sound
  193. card.
  194.  
  195. If you are getting no sound at all, check to make sure that the 
  196. software installation for your sound card matches the hardware 
  197. settings on your sound card.  Also check to be sure that your 
  198. config.sys or autoexec.bat file contains the appropriate sound 
  199. card drivers.
  200.  
  201. If you are getting high-pitched noise, or heavy static, or frequent 
  202. loss of sound, chances are that you have an address or interrupt 
  203. conflict problem.  
  204.  
  205. Recommended sound card settings are: 
  206.  
  207. DMA Channel 1, Interrupt 7, Addr. 220.
  208. or
  209. DMA Channel 3, Interrupt 7, Addr. 220.
  210.  
  211. If you are getting sound but get periodic jerkiness or skips, 
  212. the likelyhood is that your CD-ROM drive or its interface, or 
  213. your PC CPU is too slow to adequately process the information 
  214. quickly enough to allow for smooth operation.  A double spin 
  215. CD-ROM drive is recommended and is manufactured by Toshiba, 
  216. Texel, Nec, Panasonic, Philips, and others.  If your system has
  217. a sustained throughput of at least 150 kilobytes per second, 
  218. an average access time of less than 350 milliseconds, and a 
  219. 64K transfer buffer, you should be able to enjoy the full 
  220. quality of performance of "PICKING UP THE GIRLS".
